Ship of Theseus (2012)

Ship of Theseus is 2012 Indian made drama film, which is written and directed by Anand Gandhi. The main cast includes actors like Neeraj Kabi, Sohum Shah, Vinay Shukla, Aida Elkashef, Faraz Khan, Amba Sanyal.


The film explores the questions of identity, beauty, justice, meaning, life and death through the stories of an experimental photographer played by Aida El-Kashef, Neeraj Kabi who played an ailing monk and an enterprising stockbroker played by Sohum Shah. 

The film asks the question that if the main parts of a ship are replaced, bit by bit, is it still the same ship. Through a curious photographer grappled with the loss of her discerning brilliance as an outcome of a medical procedure, an intellectual monk confronting a moral dilemma with a seized ideology, has to choose between his principle and death; and a young stockbroker, following the track of a stolen kidney, and learns how complex morality can be. Following the different strands of their philosophical voyage and their eventual meeting, this film explores and to a certain extent answers questions on life.

                      

The film has received positive feedback worldwide and has been critically appreciated by a wide range of audiences. The film first premiered in the 2012 Toronto Film festival where it was called the hidden gem of the year. It has been hailed by the media as the most significant film to come out of India in recent times.
