Twice Born (2012)

Twice Born is a 2012 Italian Language film, based on novel by Margaret Mazzantini. The film is a romantic war drama film. The film casts Penelope Cruz, Emile Hirsch, SadetAksoy in lead roles and others in the supporting cast. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival of 2012.

                               

In year 1984 with the Winter Olympics approaching, Gemma (Penélope Cruz) comes to Bosnia where she falls in love with an American photographer Diego (Emile Hirsch). Their passions burned during the brief time together, and shortly after that Gemma told about the desire to become a mother, civil war erupts and plunges the country, and their romance, into chaos.

                               

Forward to the present day, Gemma hears that an exhibition of Diego's photographs is about to go on display in Sarajevo. Still haunted by her complex and difficult past, Gemma boards a plane bound to Sarajevo with her teenage son. As she steps off the plane, the memories come rushing back. Gemma escorts her son round the city sharing stories of her youth; everything she sees stirs up memories of the ill-fated love affair, and the disturbing experiences that shaped her into the woman she is today.

The film was very successful in Italy and was appreciated by viewers and critics in the film fraternity.
