English Vinglish (2012)

English Vinglish is a 2012 released Indian comedy drama movie. The movie was written and directed by Gauri Shinde. Inspired by Shinde's mother, English Vinglish was originally made in Hindi; it was later released along with dubbed versions in Tamil and Telugu on 5 October 2012. The film stars Sridevi in the lead role with French actor Mehdi Nebbou, Priya Anand and Adil Hussain. Amitabh Bachchan and Ajith Kumar have cameo appearances.

                         

English Vinglish is the story of a woman who doesn’t know English and is made to feel unconfident by her family and the society at large. The film is a cheery yet touching journey of Shashi. The circumstances around, make her determined to overcome the insecurity, by mastering the language and teaching the world a lesson in the way to becoming a self-assured, confident woman. The film is mostly shot in New York and captures the innate struggle of many people all over the world with the English Language. It is a hilarious yet touching and sensitive film marking the comeback of India's female star, Sridevi.

                        
The film earned global acclaim and was very well received by critics and common audiences. Gauri Shinde swept all awards for debut director. The film was a box office hit and was selected for many International film festivals.
