Argo (2012)

Argo is a 2012 released, historical drama thriller, genre film directed by Ben Affleck. The movie adapted from US CIA agent Tony Mendez’s book, The Master of Disguise and Joshuah Bearman’s 2007 article The Great Escape. It is the story of Mendez’s led rescue operation of six US diplomats from Iran in the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. The film stars Ben Affleck as Mendez along with Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston and John Goodman in supporting roles.

                                                   

Based on a true story, Argo records the life or death undercover covert operation to rescue six American diplomats, which extended behind the scenes of the Iran-hostage- crisis, the truth of which was screened from the public for decades. On November 4, 1979, the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point; militants stormed the U.S. embassy in Tehran and took 52 Americans as hostage. However, in the middle of the chaos, six Americans managed to get-away and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. Well knowing about the fact that it is only a matter of time before they are found out and likely killed, a CIA "infiltration" specialist, Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck) comes up with a hazardous plan to get them safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it happens in the movies. 

Argo received worldwide acclaim and was nominated for 7 Academy Awards and won three including Best Picture. It also received 5 Golden Globe nominations.
