Wadjda is a Saudi Arabian-German movie telling the story of an 11-year old Saudi girl, Wadjda who lives in the capital Riyadh, and wants to buy a green bicycle that she saw in a store on her way to school. She has her neighborhood friend Abdullah whom she wants to race against, but riding bikes is not allows for girls and Wadjda’s mother denies buying one for her daughter.
Wadjda’s father looks for a second marriage and her mother tries to convince him not to take a second wife. Wadjda does forbid activities such as mediator for a teacher, selling mix tapes, etc. in the school yard so that she could find the money herself to buy a bicycle. The movie shows a girl’s knowledge and belief in Quran and how that belief came for her help.
Will she buy a bicycle? Will her father take a second wife? And will she win the race against Abdullah? The movie definitely deserves watching with kids who have colorful dreams about their life.
