Kahaani (2012)

This is an Indian thriller movie starring gorgeous Vidya Balan as a pregnant woman who travels from London to Kolkatta in search of her missing husband. The movie is directed and co-produced by Sujoy Ghosh. Along with Vidya Balan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Parambrata Chatterjee, Indraneli Sengupta and Saswata Chatterjee have played important characters of the story.

                           

The character of pregnant woman namely Vidya Bagchi is a software engineer who arrives at Kolkatta during Durga Puja searching for her hubby, Arnab Bagchi, who came to Kolkatta for an assignment for National Data Center. With the help of a police officer, based on his initial investigations she finds that her husband was never an employee of National Data Center and then decides to investigate herself.

The film exhibits the vast cultural depictions of West Bengal. It is shot in Kolkatta so the film features the magnificent Howrah Bridge and Victoria Memorial, along with so many others worth seeing places in and around Kolkatta. The biggest festival of Bengalis i.e. Durga Puja and the last day of this 10 days long puja is Vijayadashmi, assuming significant role in the storyline.

                                      

The film was a sleeper hit, grabbing Rs. 1.04 billion over the world in just 50 days from the release. It bagged several awards along with five Filmfare Awards and three National Film Award including the Best Actress and Best Director trophies.
