Tabu (2012)

Miguel Gomes directed the Portuguese film Tabu. Interestingly, the title of the movie refers to the silent film of F. W. Murnau with the title of similar sound. This film was made its first appearance on big screens on 2012. Teresa Madruga stars the film.

                    

The background of the film was set up just before the beginning of the Portuguese Colonial War. The plot of the film moves around the story of Aurora, Pillar and Santa. Most strikingly, the film begins with a prologue in voice of Miguel Gomes, which sounds like that of the legend. The story tells some of its part in flashback to interwoven the plot of the film intensely.

                     

The film was nominated and won Alfred Bauer Award in the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival. It was also selected for The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) prizes. Interestingly, this film was ranked second among the best films of that year. Miguel Gomes and Mariana Ricardo wrote the screenplay of the film produced by Sandro Aguilar and Luís Urbano.
