Rhino season (2012)

The movie Rhino season directed by Bahman Ghobadi is a tale based on the tragic story of a Kurdish poet he was unjustly imprisoned at the time of Iran’s Islamic revolution. He tries to reach his family after spending 30 years in prison. His family believing him dead migrates to Istanbul from Iran. After going through some flashback scenes of the movie, the viewer’s came to know that the prisoner was once a victim of a jealous chauffer who had displeasure and was reprieved by a woman who married him.

The picture tells the story as there are fewer dialogues to express and the actors convey their feelings and emotions with the help of gestures, eye and facial expressions with limitations given to them by the director. The performance of Behromz Vossough is very haunting in the movie. There is less presentation of human nature and the redemption is covered by burning the dialogues of the aggrieved onto the skin of the criminal. The last act in the movie is to make the final self-sacrifice which is unknown to woman who is in the core of the maelstrom.
