The Sapphires is a charming Australian musical in the comedy, drama genre. This was released in 2012. The movie was based on a musical play of the same name. The film was directed by Wayne Blair. The film casts Chris O’Dowd, Jessica Mauboy, Deborah Mailman, Miranda Tapsell, Shari Sebbens and Tory Kittles in main roles.
The movie is inspired from a true story; it follows 4 young, vivacious, and talented Australian native girls on a remote mission to Vietnam to cheer up the troops. In their journey they learn about friendship, love and war as their all girl group The Sapphires entertains U.S. troops in Vietnam in 1968. Cynthia (Tapsell), Julie (Mauboy), Gail (Mailman) and Kay (Sebbens) are discovered by a cheerful talented scout Dave (O'Dowd). He has very little sense in rhythm but has abundant acquaintance with soul music. He becomes their manager, books these sisters for their first real gig providing with their first flavor of stardom. They travel together to Vietnam and sings to entertain the American troops posted there.
The movie did extremely well at the Australian Box office. The movie received a positive response from critics worldwide and was loved by all audiences. It was also nominated for several awards and won many.
