Pieta (2012)

The premiere of the Korean movie Pieta was held at the Venice film festival on 4th of September 2012.It has been directed and written by the Korean film maker Kim Ki Duk. The portrayal of violence in the film has been discussed by the critics.

                       

The film bagged the Golden Lion award at the 69th Venice Festival. The movie depicts the atrocities that a loan shark commits on the helpless borrowers. The story takes a turn when a mysterious woman claims to be his estranged mother. Initially the money lender refuses to accept her as his mother. But, gradually he accepts her in his life and strives to change his lifestyle.

                      

The first half of the movie is thrilling and exciting. The sequence of events cannot be escaped with a bat of an eyelid. The strong cast delivers their dialogues effortlessly and their acting skills combine together to create an interesting movie. The music has been directed by Park In Young and the cinematography has been designed by Cho Yeong Jik. The lead roles have been played by Lee Jung-jin and Jo Min-su. Kim kiDuk has received the Best Director award at the 2012 Dubai International Film Festival for Pieta.
