The year of 1984 was no
less than a trauma for almost everyone. With the advent of Anti- Sikh uprising,
Bhopal gas explosion, the assassination of the renowned Indira Gandhi and
terrorist attacks, the situation could not have worsened anymore. The events
that occurred in this dreadful year were no less than a catastrophe. Being
India’s fourth Prime Minister, the most shocking was the assassination of
Indira Gandhi on 31st October, 1984. She was mercilessly killed right on her
abdomen by her two bodyguards. The world had lost all hope. It was a condition
that no one could have ever imagined.
The
betrayal that followed
India’s fourth Prime
Minister was not killed by her enemy, but her trusted bodyguards of a particular
community. The former guard was known as one of the favored guards of the lady,
and they had known each other for full ten years. Such betrayal was neither
expected by the respected lady nor could the world ever have imagined it. The
outcome of this catastrophe was a tragedy. Only for the two betrayers, the
whole community had to suffer on the advent of the anti-Sikh riot by the world.
The
outcomes of the assassination
After the homicide of
Indira Gandhi by the Sikh guards, the world was outraged, and a riot was
directed against the whole community of Sikhs at 1st November, 1984. The series
of riots saw the death of more than eight thousand people. The situation was
frightful as the mobs carried iron rods, kerosene, knives, petrol and they
hovered through all the Sikh localities killing hundreds of men, women and
children. The residences and shops of this community were burned and
vandalized. The violence continued for a very long time. Check out http://www.31oct1984.com/ for more
information on the topic.
The
frightful desolation
Among the echoes of
1984, the Bhopal Tragedy was unmatchable in the industrial history of the whole
world. It occurred on 3rd December, 1984 when MIC or Methyl-Iso-Cyanate which
is a toxic gas got accidentally released into the air by the pesticide plant,
UCIL or Union Carbide India Limited. The outcome was no less than a nightmare
that is showing its adversities even today. Hundreds of residents diet one
after the other by inhaling the toxic gas. Some, who were still trying hard to
thrive, desperately reached for treatment in the hospitals and many of them has
become blind and breathless. There were some who were blessed enough to live,
faced serious issues with their neurological and immune systems and also with
the lungs, muscles, and brains.
